Princess Eugenie and Princess Beatrice have been under the microscope since their father, the former prince Andrew, was arrested for suspicion of misconduct in public office. Sure, they kept their titles and were even invited to Christmas with the family, but the fact that their father and mother were both so involved with Epstein has left them both in a very uncomfortable position.

And the response from the sisters seems to be silence. Eugenie, for example, turned 36 on March 23, but for the first time in a couple of years, didn’t post to her personal Instagram to mark the occasion. In fact, she hasn’t posted on social media since November of last year. Seems more like a deliberate choice than an oversight at this point.

She has, however, been seen in public. Eugenie and her husband, Jack Brooksbank, were photographed at Hagen Espresso Bar in London’s Notting Hill neighbourhood on Tuesday, Feb. 24. She was then caught drinking a shake the next day, in London.

About the date with her husband, a source told People, “She was chatting away with someone she knows and seemed very relaxed. It was all very casual.”

“She was laughing and joking,” they added. “She looked happy and at ease — not like someone trying to hide.”

That was, of course, a month ago. Strategies might have shifted since then. Especially amid reports that both Beatrice and Eugenie accompanied their mother to meet with Epstein after his release from prison, and that their father pressured someone into gifting his daughters money.

Recent reports about her marriage also point to some tension. The Daily Mail reported that Princess Eugenie’s husband, Jack Brooksbank‘s “code of honour” means he will not “completely desert Andrew and Sarah” but he refuses to “step into the line of fire himself.”

“His first loyalty has to be to his wife and their two young children. The whole sordid affair has already brought them a great deal of unwarranted attention and he won’t do anything to increase that,” the source added.

The two are apparently on the same page about the possibility of Eugenie’s mother, Sarah Ferguson, coming to live with them. “Eugenie and Jack are resisting any suggestion from her mother that she should come and live with them. Because to be frank Sarah is difficult to live with and they don’t want the responsibility of looking after her at the moment.”

Beatrice’s marriage, in the meantime, is also reportedly facing some complicated times. The Daily Mail also reported that their marriage is “in trouble” as friends of the two have become concerned that Edoardo Mapelli Mozi is distancing himself. He is reportedly “keen to avoid his business being tainted by the scandal enveloping the House of York.”

“Things haven’t been great for a while between them, but Beatrice has been determined to soldier on and forge a path through,” sources said.  “Beatrice is quite different from her sister [Princess Eugenie]. She really wants to almost naively see the good in people and will turn a blind eye to uncomfortable truths — that is why she was blind to her father’s behaviour, and the same is true of her belief in Edo.”
