Miley Cyrus Reportedly ‘Regrets How Things Went Down’ in Liam Hemsworth Breakup as Sources Reveal Where They Really Stand Now—She’s ‘Had a Tough Time’
Miley Cyrus might have become famous because of Hannah Montana, but she stayed famous because of her singing career. Which means that, for many years, the public saw her grow up and followed along as she dated different guys before marrying Liam Hemsworth.
Then, the two split up for a while, got back together, and then got married. That later ended in divorce. And it was reportedly not a good breakup. Cyrus has a few songs that speak to it. But where do the exes stand these days? Do they get along now?

What’s Miley Cyrus & Liam Hemsworth’s Relationship Now?
Cyrus has moved on, fully. She’s engaged to Maxx Morando, and her relationship with Hemsworth is fully in the past. But, according to a new report from Globe Magazine, she wants to clear the air with her ex-husband before starting this new chapter in her life.
And people close to her are reportedly not fans of the idea. The magazine alleges that “pals fear her well-intentioned desire to clear the air with her ex will bring a wrecking ball to his new engagement.” And that’s not all, as Hemsworth’s fiancée, Gabriella Brooks, is also reportedly against the idea.
Cyrus and Hemsworth dated on and off for years after appearing together in the movie The Last Song. They married in 2018 and divorced in 2020.
“As much as Miley has tried to move on, she’s really had a tough time,” an insider said. “She’s the type of person who hates leaving things unsaid, and she swears that’s the reason she wants to see Liam. He was her first everything. She truly believed they were destined to be together forever, and she regrets a lot of the way things went down toward the end of their relationship.”
Not that long ago, Cyrus revealed in a September 2025 interview with Vogue that she still has some sentimental items from her time with Hemsworth. “I literally have a dress that I had on when I met my ex-husband,” she said. “And then I have my dress that I wore on our first date along with letters and things that I really, I want to savor these kind of beautiful moments of my life.”
This lines up with the reports that Cyrus wants a face-to-face meeting to make sure they end things on a good note. “Miley wants the air totally cleared,” the source continued. “Liam hates confrontation, so he’s avoided Miley since things imploded. He literally just ghosted her — which has only made it harder for her.”
Whether Hemsworth also wants this or not remains to be seen. But his fiancée reportedly really doesn’t. “Gabriella wants Liam’s focus on her—not on building a better relationship with his ex!” a source said.
Basically, at this point, the two don’t really have a relationship, but there’s a chance they could meet in the near future. If nothing else, just to make sure there’s nothing unsaid and everyone can happily move on.
