Former U.S. presidents and first ladies receive lifetime Secret Service protection, which is why we sometimes get very strange news about something happening to them or the Secret Service agents protecting them. That’s the case with the latest news about an agent assigned to former first lady Jill Biden.

Reportedly, a U.S. Secret Service agent assigned to Jill Biden’s protective detail accidentally shot their own leg while at Philadelphia International Airport on Friday, March 27. Yes, you read that right. The former first lady was at the airport at the time, but she was not present at the scene of the accidental shooting, USSS spokesperson Nate Herring told People.

The agent “suffered a non-life-threatening injury following a negligent discharge while handling a service weapon,” according to Herring. The agent was given immediate medical attention and transported to a nearby hospital. He’s reportedly in stable condition. There were no other injuries, and the agent has not been identified by name.

Jill Biden last appeared in public on Wednesday, March 25, when she attended the opening night of Public Charge, a new off-Broadway play that was written by her former chief of staff, Julissa Reynoso. Her office declined to comment on the Secret Service agent’s injury.

Herring also said that, “The Secret Service’s Office of Professional Responsibility will be reviewing the facts and circumstances of this incident.”

Though Jill Biden herself hasn’t really been in the news for anything she’s done lately, there have been some secondary mentions of her in some shocking events. There’s this secret service agent who accidentally shot himself. And last month, Jill’s ex-husband, William Stevenson, was arrested and charged with first-degree murder following the death of his wife, Linda Stevenson.

Linda was found dead inside the couple’s house in Wilmington, Delaware, after an alleged domestic dispute on December 28, 2025. Fox 29 News reported that Stevenson was arrested on February 2.

Jill Biden and William Stevenson married in 1970 when she was only 18 and divorced in 1975. She married former President Joe Biden two years later.

That same Stevenson once claimed Jill was having an affair with Joe Biden when they separated in 1974. He told outlet WDEL during Biden’s presidential run, “I said, ‘Look, the Bidens made up this dramatic story that they met, he saw a picture of her,’ and I told him, I said, ‘That was so untrue.” Jill and Joe Biden have always said they first met in 1975.

The Biden camp replied, “These claims are fictitious, seemingly to sell and promote a book,” a statement said. “The relationship of Joe and Jill Biden is well documented.”

“Jill Biden separated from her first husband irreconcilably in the fall of 1974 and moved out of their marital home,” the statement continued. “Joe and Jill Biden had their first date in March of 1975, and they married in June of 1977.”
