We’re typically hearing about Barron Trump because of his father, President Trump, or his mother, first lady Melania Trump. Sometimes, the headlines focus on his personal relationships with his siblings, too, like recent reports that Ivanka, Eric, and Don Jr. were not invited to his 20th birthday. But Barron himself has been involved in legal drama in the past few months. Though at least it’s in a much more positive way than his father.
Now, that’s been put to rest. One Russian man has been convicted to four years in jail after assaulting a woman in a case where Barron Trump himself called the authorities. Matvei Rumiantsev was sentenced at London’s Snaresbrook Crown Court on Friday, March 27. He was found guilty in January of assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

He was also found guilty of perverting the court of justice. This relates to a letter he wrote to his victim from prison, trying to get her to withdraw the allegations. The assailant admitted during the trial to have been “jealous to some extent” about the woman’s friendship with Barron Trump, whom she met on social media.
“What I was really unhappy about was that she was frankly leading [Barron] on,” he said, according to Metro. “I am being portrayed as a jealous person who can lose his temper due to jealousy. I want to just make clear that her actions towards [Barron] were wrong, and it was not fair. I was jealous to some extent.”
The woman’s name is being withheld as is the standard in these cases.
Reportedly, the unnamed woman was assaulted by her ex while Barron was on a FaceTime call with her. This was reported by multiple UK outlets, including The Times, The Guardian, and The Independent.
Trump made an emergency call at the time, saying, “I’m calling from the US, I just got a call from a girl… she’s getting beat up,” according to a transcript. “This was happening about eight minutes ago. I just figured out how to, how to call someone. It’s really an emergency.”
She testified during the trial that she believed Barron’s intervention had saved her life, according to British media. However, a British judge urged jurors in an assault case to treat Barron’s account of the incident with “caution” as it may be “biased.” Jurors were instructed to treat his account as hearsay evidence since he wasn’t under oath and had not “been tested in cross-examination.”
“If he had done so, no doubt he could have been asked about things such as whether he ever got a good view of what happened, whether he actually saw [the woman] being assaulted, or jumped to this conclusion on the basis of her screams,” the judge said. “He might also have been asked whether his perception was biased because he was a close friend with [the woman].”
