Even before the former prince Andrew was arrested for suspicion of misconduct in public office, it was clear the British royal family was done supporting him, or at least looking the other way about his transgressions. His older brother, King Charles, stripped him of his titles and evicted him from Royal Lodge after all. But how Andrew’s de facto banishment would affect his daughters, Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie, wasn’t known.

Now, we might have a clue. The two will reportedly skip the royal family’s Easter service. Palace aides are calling it a “personal decision,” but Rob Shuter is reporting that it wasn’t exactly that. The two have allegedly made alternative plans for the holiday amid those personal reasons.

“This wasn’t optional,” one royal source told the gossip columnist. “It was decided for them.” And apparently, it goes back to Prince William.

“William is tightening the circle,” the insider said. “And this is what that looks like.”

The Prince of Wales is said to be more involved in controlling the way the public perceives the monarchy. “He’s thinking about the future, not feelings,” the source explained, “It’s about protecting the brand.”

And right now, anything that is too close to Andrew is just a bad look. If, for years, the royal family protected him, that’s no longer something they can or will do. Ironic.

“There’s history there the palace can’t ignore,” the insider said. “Even if no one wants to say it out loud.”

Officially, this is meant to be temporary. But we’ve already seen that the two will also miss the Royal Ascot, according to the Daily Mail. Speaking with the outlet, a source said, “I’ve spoken to my friend who works at Ascot, and they said the girls have been told they can’t be there this year.” That’s not all, “Beatrice has taken it the hardest. She’s been completely blindsided by all of this,” the insider added.

So that very much seems to be an excuse. “These things don’t just happen once,” Shuter’s source said. “Once you’re out, it’s easier to stay out.”

And the decision means William is in charge. “Charles may still be king,” the source said, “but William is making the decisions that matter,” adding, “This wasn’t about Easter. It was about control.”

It comes after RadarOnline reported that, despite the fact that Beatrice and Eugenie were not directly involved in their parents’ dealings with Epstein, their closeness to what happened is enough. “There is a real concern that Prince William wants their heads on the chopping block as part of a harder line on which royals should remain publicly associated with the institution,” a source told the outlet. “Beatrice and Eugenie feel like they are living in horrific limbo. They have spent years carefully building respectable private lives, yet the fallout from their parents’ controversies keeps circling back to them.”

Robert Jobnson, a royal author, told The Express, “William is cold-eyed about the institution. Unsentimental. Catherine backs people who stay quiet and get on with things. Of the three, Charles is the only one who actually cares.”

Clearly, not enough to keep Beatrice and Eugenie involved in family affairs. At least not right now. Who knows if we will ever see them representing the royal family in any way in the future?
