The Netflix series Untold: The Death & Life of Lamar Odom takes us behind the scenes of Lamar Odom’s addiction and near-death experience from an overdose. But the show also examines his relationship with Khloe Kardashian and how that addiction was ultimately what drove them apart.

But, how exactly did they go their separate ways? Why did they choose to divorce? And what did each party get in the divorce settlement? Here’s everything we know.

What Was Lamar Odom & Khloe Kardashian’s Divorce Settlement?

The two parted ways pretty much exactly how they came into the marriage, with no party receiving spousal support. Each of them had a net worth in the millions, and a prenup made the financial part of the divorce pretty straightforward, with both keeping the money and properties they brought into the marriage.

As for the marital assets, Kardashian kept the couple’s marital mansion and remained the sole beneficiary of a multi-million-dollar life insurance policy held by Odom. At the time, she could have been entitled to spousal support, but elected not to pursue any payments.

Their divorce was finalized in December 2016. Kardashian had originally filed for divorce in December of 2013, but withdrew the filing after Odom was found unconscious in a Nevada hotel in 2015. She cited his medical condition as her reasoning to rescind the filing.

However, Kardashian filed again for divorce in May of 2016, citing irreconcilable differences. The two started dating in 2009.

What were the irreconcilable differences? Untold: The Death & Life of Lamar Odom examines the time after his near-fatal overdose, when Kardashian was technically still married to him. She then put their almost-finalized divorce proceedings on hold.

“I never left the hospital,” Kardashian said in the documentary. “I was there for about four months, with him every single day. We were determined to get him walking and moving again.”

He was treated at Sunrise Hospital in Las Vegas after he was found unconscious at the Love Ranch, a brothel in Crystal, Nevada, on October 13, 2025. He woke up after three days in a coma. “He says, ‘Hey, baby,’ and falls back asleep,” Khloe recalled. Odom was later flown to Los Angeles’ Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, where he remained for months. In January, he entered a private rehab facility.

“It probably was harder” for Khloe, Odom said of that period, “’cause I couldn’t say ‘thank you,’ or ‘I appreciate you,’ or couldn’t show any—I wouldn’t even cry.”

After Odom left the rehab facility, there were questions about where he would go. Kardashian rented a home for near her and hired a caretaker. “We were going to rehabilitate him,” she explained. In May 2016, however, she found him using drugs.

“Once you know the smell of crack,” she said, “it’s the most identifiable, disgusting smell, and there’s nothing you can confuse it with.” So, when she arrived, she decided to “f–king be as stealth as possible” and “see what the f–k this guy’s doing.”

“I remember slowly tiptoeing up the stairs,” she continued. “He was in his bedroom, sitting on the edge of the bed, smoking crack. And I just punched him in his face. ‘I just put my life on hold to f–king take care of you. How did you get this? You don’t have a f–king phone. You can’t talk.'”

Kardashian filed for divorce again after that.
