There’s no doubt that Queen Elizabeth II protected her son Andrew in the years before her death. Sure, after the Epstein scandal and that disastrous interview, Andrew was forced to step down as working royal. But he faced no consequences before, and even after, he kept his title and his status until 2025, when King Charles stripped him of his titles and evicted him from Royal Lodge.

But the question has long been how much the queen knew about what her son was up to, and how much Andrew took advantage of his mother’s love. RadarOnline is reporting that the situation doesn’t make Andrew look good at all.

Royal historian Andrew Lownie, the author of Entitled: The Rise and Fall of the House of York, wrote about the monarch’s last years and Andrew’s behavior, saying, “By the end of (Queen Elizabeth‘s) life, what people don’t realize is that she was completely gaga. (Andrew) would go up there and he would bully her into doing things. So for the last few years of her life, (King) Charles actually was running the show, rather than the Queen.”

He added, “She, I’m afraid, abetted this. The whole family abetted this – they knew about it.”

To royal insiders, these are big claims. “The suggestion that Andrew Windsor bullied his doting mother in her final years will be deeply troubling to many who followed the late Queen’s reign,” sources said. “Claims he exploited her completely ‘gaga’ mental state, as Lownie puts it, are particularly stark and will inevitably provoke new debate about what was really happening behind palace doors.”

But that’s not all, as the book also focuses on Andrew’s conduct during his time as U.K. trade envoy. Andrew is being investigated for suspicion of misconduct in public office for what happened during that time.

“There were MI6 officers who went to (royal) private secretaries and said, ‘Look, he’s been caught with $5million in a suitcase in Kazakhstan,’ and they were sent away with a flea in their ear,” Lownie claimed, indicating that Andrew was protected from consequences from early on.

“He gave away confidential information to other countries. Also, there is insider trading there.”

In fact, Lownie even said that Andrew should face charges of treason, but that the reason he won’t is that no one wants him to speak about the matter in public. “(Buckingham Palace) don’t want Andrew turning up in court saying, ‘Everyone knew about this, this is why I am being penalized,'” he wrote.

Right now, Andrew is being investigated, but remains free.

King Charles released a statement right after Andrew’s arrest, saying, “I have learned with the deepest concern the news about Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor and suspicion of misconduct in public office. What now follows is the full, fair and proper process by which this issue is investigated in the appropriate manner and by the appropriate authorities.”

He added, “In this, as I have said before, they have our full and wholehearted support and co-operation. Let me state clearly: the law must take its course. As this process continues, it would not be right for me to comment further on this matter. Meanwhile, my family and I will continue in our duty and service to you all.”
