If there’s ever a perfect time and place for a meeting between King Charles and his youngest son, Prince Harry, it is Charles’ upcoming state visit to the US. Harry has been living in the US for years, and though he has traveled to the UK and even met with his father once last year, his family hasn’t due to security concerns. So, King Charles’ visit actually presents the perfect opportunity for not just father and son to meet, but for Charles to see his grandkids as well.
But will it happen? Experts don’t believe so. “The state visit of King Charles and Queen Camilla is of pivotal importance with Anglo-American relations at a low ebb,” royal expert Richard Fitzwilliams told Fox News Digital.

For that reason, “The focus must be on the principals,” Fitzwilliams said. “There is simply no place for Prince Harry in this plan. It is essential that they focus on the host and visitors only, not on a situation where attention could be diverted by a media frenzy. This has to be avoided.”
People magazine had previously reported that, on paper, it might look like a good time for a meeting, but the itinerary for the trip was packed. “When you’re talking about a state visit, every minute is accounted for — especially when it’s the king traveling as the invited guest of a head of state,” said a source.
Reportedly, Harry understands. “Harry knows how things are and wouldn’t ask for that either under these circumstances.”
Shannon Felton Spence, former head of Politics and Communication at the British Consulate General of New England, told Fox News Digital there will be no time for personal visits. “This is very different from a normal royal visit, and it’s entirely different from a private trip,” she said. “There is a lot hinging on this trip between the U.S. and the U.K., which have incredibly frayed relations at the moment. Every aspect of the program will be diplomatically strategic and coordinated.”
This visit comes after King Charles’ last appearance, in a video paying tribute to his late mother, Queen Elizabeth, left people concerned about his health.
Reddit users pointed out the King’s demeanor and appearance, and worried about what it might mean. “This is such a lovely message. Unfortunately, the King does not look well IMHO,” one user wrote.
“He has aged a great deal, which is understandable. It’s not clear how harsh his treatments are or how bad the cancer is at this point, but it must be taking its toll,” a second person added.
“Charles looks terrible. Sorry. He does,” a third person observed, with someone else saying, “He looks unsteady, and he had a hard time reading the script.”
The King originally announced his cancer diagnosis in February 2024, and at the time, he took a break from public engagements, though that break only lasted a few months. There have been allegations that he might be thinking of abdicating and letting his son, William, take the throne, but recent reports have pushed back on that narrative.
