Savannah Guthrie is making sure her return to Today is as smooth as possible, even drawing strict boundaries with security.

Rob Shuter’s Naughty But Nice reported in April 2026 that NBC has offered Guthrie a high level of protection, including around-the-clock personal security and a guard inside 30 Rock and Studio 1A — but she declined.

“There is no private, dedicated security just for Savannah inside her office,” a source said. “That was her decision.”

They continued, “She doesn’t want a bodyguard sitting outside her office or walking her through the halls. She wants to feel normal at work. … She wants to walk in, do her job, and not feel surrounded by fear.”

As for Guthrie’s life outside of work, that’s a different story: “Her off-site security is being handled,” the source added. “But those details are private.”

Despite her decision to forgo personal protection at work, the insider still noted that there is “extra security at the show” and at NBC, adding, “The building is locked down tighter than usual. Access is stricter than ever. No pass, no entry — no exceptions.”

“Even longtime staff are being turned away if they don’t follow protocol,” the source explained. “Rules are rules right now.”

Guthrie stepped away from Today temporarily to be with her family amid her 84-year-old mother Nancy Guthrie’s sudden disappearance. She returned to Today on April 6, telling viewers it was “good to be back home.”

“You guys have been so beautiful,” Guthrie told the fans on Rockefeller Plaza. “I’ve received so many letters, so much kindness to me and my whole family. We feel it. We feel your prayers, so thank you so much.”

Nancy was last seen at her Arizona home on Jan. 30, 2026, and she was reportedly kidnapped sometime between the night of January 31 and the early hours of February 1. Authorities have not yet identified a suspect or motive.
