The Osmonds member Alan Osmond sadly died on April 21, 2026, at age 76. A spokesperson for his family announced his death in a statement to Utah’s KSL News. Osmond’s wife, Suzanne, and their eight sons were by his side when he passed.
His cause of death has not been revealed, but he was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis (MS) in 1987. A chronic autoimmune neurological disease, MS causes the immune system to attack the central nervous system. The National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS) says symptoms depend on the patient, but MS can lead to muscle weakness, vision changes, walking problems, numbness, and more.
Osmond was seemingly private about his battle with MS, but he previously revealed how he discovered he had the condition: “I was on stage and couldn’t raise my right hand,” he said, per KSL. But rather than giving in to the disease’s progression, Osmond said he “trusted my Heavenly Father.”
“You have to have opposition in life — this was my test,” he added.
Despite his illness, Osmond remained optimistic and lived by the motto, “I may have MS, but MS does not have me.” He also told Caregiving Club in May 2015 that he was inspired by the acronym “TUFF.”
“It stands for: Target what you need to do; Understand everything you can about the challenge in front of you; Focus on how to live with or beat that challenge; Fight, Fight, Fight – you have to have the drive and desire to keep living and keep fighting for yourself and those around you,” he explained.
He even found ways to live with MS, telling Caregiving Club that, after a cortisone short in 1987 “just about killed me,” he embraced all-natural diet and homeopathic remedies, as well as hydro-exercise to help with muscle fatigue and balance.
